Claire Layout with Homemade Spray Mist

Image
I love misting however, I always want to mist with a  color I don't have or I want it to match the ink I am using on the layout. Close to My Heart has a perfect solution: Create A Shade Pearl Paint  ($2.95) Exclusive Re-Inker , available in 42 colors ($4.25) Spray Pen  (3 for $3.95) All you need to add is water!  There is no exact recipe as it depends how dark you want your spray. I typically use 8-10 drops of re-inker, a small dab of pearl paint and then carefully fill the spray pen with water. Shake well and then spray on your cardstock, patterned paper or embellishments. For the best spray result I hold the pen at a 45 degree angle and 6" away from my paper. Be sure to play with scrap paper first until you get a feel of how to spray so it does not glob or pool. Here is the cardstock I misted before I created anything. Here is the final project.    Besides the spray mist, I also used the Claire paper pack, Outdoor Denim Ca...

Fabric Flower Tutorial

Image
I am absolutely in love with the Close to My Heart Textile fabrics. I have played with Chantilly and will be order For Always next time I place an order. Today I am using strips of fabric to create fabric flowers. Here is the final product: To create the flower I started with my liquid glass, an approximately 1 1/2" strip of fabric and a small piece of scrap paper. I first folded my fabric in half length wise, wrong sides together. I then applied a generous amount of liquid glass to the scrap paper. Then I started rolling. Your hands will get messy and you will use LOTS of liquid glass, but the result is worth it. I just rolled it up like a coil until I was happy with the size and then cut the fabric and used the remaining fabric to create a smaller flower. This type of flower is very forgiving and you can place a button in the middle to cover any imperfections.

Rag Quilt Tutorial

I found my new favorite quick gift idea, rag quilts. Thanks to my friend Kristen for introducing me to these in December. So far I have made one for my mother-in-law for Christmas and 2 baby rag quilts for shower gifts. They are easy to make and only take a few hours. I have had a few people ask how to make them, so I am including instructions so you can create your own beautiful rag quilts. For a baby quilt, you will use six different fabrics in the following yardage: 1 1/4 yard of focus fabric 1/4 yard of 4 different coordinating fabrics 1 1/2 yard of solid color fabric for the middle layer. Do not pre-wash your fabric. You will wash it after the quilt is complete . Here is the fabric I used. The cream fabric is the inner layer for my quilt. First, you will cut 6" blocks from all fabric. You need 84 blocks from your focus fabric and coordinating fabric and 42 blocks for the middle layer (your solid 1 1/2 yards of fabric). After you cut all...
