Random Cards of Kindness

For those who have followed my blog for awhile, well since January when I started it, you know that one of my New Year's Resolutions was to strengthen my friendships with more personal touches. Unfortunately in the day of e-mail and Facebook, remembering to send a birthday card, thank you card or just because hard gets lost.  I believe I have successfully hit all my friend's birthdays (for those who I socialize with regularly and have mailing addresses for) so far with handmade birthday cards (if I forgot you it is not because I don't care about you, it is just I was not organized enough this year but promise to do better next year). However, I have not been as good at sending out just because cards. I believe in the last 5 months I have sent out exactly one! That is about to change though. Today is June 3rd and every week now for the next 3 months I am going to send a card out to someone either just because, get well, thinking of you, thanks for being a good friend, etc....

New Year Resolutions

I cannot believe June is almost here. I decided since we are 5 months into 2011 it would be a good time to look back at my New Year's Resolutions and see how I am doing. I can tell without looking, not so good! I did start a blog, but since I am not accomplishing a lot it has not been updated in awhile. Which leads to controlling my Crafter's ADD, which is still out of control. I have had the same picnic blanket on my quilt design wall for 3 months now, have a table runner that just needs the binding sewn on, still 18 months behind on our family scrapbook and am prepping for card classes up until people arrive and I still have not started summer decorations for the house. Every year many of us put working out/loosing weight or the like on our list. This is one think I have actually accomplished. Thanks to a fabulous Zumba/TRX instructor I have been working out regularly since March and fit into shorts that have not seen the light of day since before Simon was born! Other ...

My Crafter's ADD Continues

I really was trying to hard to stay focused this year and finish projects before the last minute and not bounce from project to project. However, I think I need to learn to embrace my Crafter' ADD instead of fighting it. I spent Thursday during pre-school cleaning my craft room and organizing my current projects. I then avoided the room yesterday as it was just too much for me to take! This morning when I walked into my craft room I saw the numerous half finished craft projects calling my name. I have a baby quilt that needs to be quilted and bound by next weekend. A rag quilt (tutorial to follow) that needs to be finished by next weekend, an apron I am working on and quilt blocks for a mystery quilt that needs to be finished by next Friday. I have paper and pictures for a LO to complete for a challenge this weekend and I also need to 2 baby shower cards and a birthday card for next weekend. I have given up all hope on getting any St. Patrick's Day cards made and instead wil...

Crafter's ADD

Reflecting on 2010 and all the great project ideas I had in my head and looking around my craft room seeing some of them partially finished, piles of fabric with patterns attached, stacks of scrapbook magazines with pictures being used as bookmarks, and only about six projects fully completed, I finally realized what my problem is. It is not that I don't have the time, the patience or the energy. It is that I have Crafter's ADD. For those who are not aware, Crafter's ADD is: Starting one project, get up to do something, see another project, do a little of that project, maybe go back to the first project, but realistically start a third project and so on. No wonder I cannot get anything completed! I am sure I am not the only one who suffers from this disease, but am one of many who suffer and are not sure what treatment to seek. Upon realizing this flaw in my creative ability, I thought if I admitted I had a problem it would magically fix itself and I would be able to focus ...
